The AVANZA Advisory Board - Scientific and Regulatory

 

Ira S. DuBey, M.S., M.B.A.

 

Mr. DuBey has over 25 years of senior executive experience managing and building science based businesses. Currently, Ira is Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Advisory Board for AVANZA Laboratories LLC. In this capacity, he is responsible for the management of the BioPharmaceutical Services business and continued growth strategy of AVANZA and in ensuring that there is the appropriate alignment between scientific expertise, operational excellence and business expansion into appropriate sectors. Prior to AVANZA, Ira held the position of Vice President and General Manager of Biotechnology Services for Tandem Labs, Inc. a LabCorp Company. Mr. DuBey conceived and built the business at Tandem Labs that supported the development of large molecule drugs (biologics) and therapeutic vaccines. The service offerings included assay development, GLP assay validation and sample analysis for both non-clinical and clinical specimens. Ira further expanded Tandem Lab’s capabilities by initiating and building a Biotechnology Services laboratory on the West Coast to provide additional services to biotechnology companies in that geography. Prior to Tandem Labs, Ira held the position of Director of Immunochemistry Services for Covance Laboratories, Inc. In this capacity he was responsible for providing laboratory services that supported NIH work as well as the development of large molecule drugs, such as protein drugs and MAB drugs. The facility was both a GLP laboratory and CLIA certified and supported both pre-clinical and clinical development. Prior to Covance, Mr. DuBey held the position of Department Head of the National Center for Forensic Science (NCFS); a Division of Quest Diagnostics, Inc. The NCFS provided drug testing services under the HHS (SAMHSA) program to federal agencies as well as professional sports teams and Fortune 500 corporations throughout the world. Ira held senior management positions in the public sector prior to joining Quest Diagnostics. Mr. DuBey holds a M.S. degree in Toxicology from the University of Maryland Graduate School and a M.B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University.
